Principal’s Message

Thank you all parents for your understanding and patience on Wednesday when we had a variety of colour (red, black and amber) rainstorm warnings. Special schools follow the ESF kindergarten processes and procedures but we realise that our website message is still confusing. I have spoken to ESF to check correct procedures and we will ensure it is updated. The reason we organised early departure was to ensure all students (and staff) arrived home safely at a reasonable hour.

One of our goals as a school is to learn about sustainability and put this knowledge into practice. The student workshops run by Food Angel in the last week have been engaging and fun. The students learned how to make cleaning liquid using orange peel, sugar and water (not for drinking!!!) and some dye for material made from vegetables.

Thanks to Joanne for organising a trip out to listen to the Hong Kong Philharmonic Concert. Everyone loved the music and it’s another learning experience for our students.

The Communications Committee is working hard to have our first JCSRS Yearbook for you to purchase in the next few weeks. We are very excited about this and Bianca and I have just collected some photos from the first JCSRS principal Mike Doherty. We will send you an email with details very soon.

I will also email you with information on how to access the summary page of your son/daughter’s Evidencer (on line platform). You will be able to see the end of year review of the IEP, the end of year report, ASDAN portfolio and the Annual Review form. This will be in preparation for the parent meetings on the 13th June. I look forward to seeing you there.

Sapphire Class Showcase

Sapphire Class have had a wonderful start to term 3 and have thoroughly enjoyed immersing themselves in the term topic ‘Let’s Celebrate’. We have been learning about a variety of celebrations e.g. weddings, birthdays, mother’s day and how different people celebrate. We have had birthday parties in class for students and been on a birthday outing to the cinema with Ruby and Silver class. The cinema outing was lots of fun and students enjoyed watching ‘The Guardians of the Galaxy’ movie and eating lunch out afterwards, this was a fantastic opportunity for students to practise their independence skills by buying lunch at the restaurant and popcorn at the movie.

Sapphire class have also been busy learning about recycling and reducing food waste and last week we participated in up-cycling workshops making our own food dye from plants and creating our own detergent from oranges.

Finally, Sapphire class worked together to create a collaborative art piece to display in SENsations, our theme was ‘food’ and students created their own fruit printing plates and printed using ink to create a colourful fruit painting, the students were proud of their work and I’m excited to see it on display!
