Primary Learning Programme
The Jockey Club Sarah Roe Primary Learning Programme
At Jockey Club Sarah Roe School we strive at all times to provide high quality and stimulating curricular experiences through which the students achieve their individual targets. We recognise the importance of the students’ active participation in and interaction with their learning experiences. It is in this interaction that real learning occurs.
Jockey Club Sarah Roe School has developed its own curriculum framework, the Primary Learning Programme, through a thematic approach. There are three main themes throughout the year which each of the primary classes follow. The themes are subdivided into units of work for each class in addition to the core subjects of English and Mathematics. This enables all the students to study at an appropriately differentiated level. The themes are revisited every three years. This means that students encounter the themes from a new perspective, broadening and deepening their learning, as they progress through the classes and up along the curricular spiral.
We aim to provide a curriculum that is appropriate to the needs of individual and which focuses on the educational process rather than the product. The development of our curriculum has been informed by curricular models drawn from the UK and Australia as well as continuing research into current international special educational theory and practice.
