Principal’s Message

I hope everyone has been able to stay dry! We have certainly missed our outside play times with this weather. It’s great to see students focusing on health and well-being despite not being able to exercise outdoors as much as usual. Students in Diamond class made up healthy and delicious looking plates of food as part of this unit of work.

Many classes had the opportunity to visit the ESF Art Exhibition in TST last week. We are very proud of the art work the students produced (it will hang in our sensations cafe now).

This week the teachers came together to moderate the students’ ASDAN work. Samples of the completed portfolios go to the UK and we always get very positive feedback on the evidence we submit. Of course, as parents you can also see all the evidence (photos, videos and work samples) on your son or daughter’s VLE page. Teachers are busy uploading information now and writing the end of year reports that will also be available on the VLE. We hope you find the updated page a lot more user-friendly.

A number of students participated in the Special Olympics golf sessions. I didn’t see any ‘hole in one’ shots but there was certainly plenty of enthusiasm and skill.

This week all the teachers and therapists met to discuss class groupings for the 2019-20 school year. It’s always a tricky job but be assured that we have in-depth discussions that always focus on the needs of students. This year is particularly complex as we are still waiting to hear about who will fill the final places. I will send you an email on the 17 June with the proposed class for your son or daughter keeping in mind that there are often changes over summer. On the 18th students will spend the morning in their ‘new’ classes to get to know each other and the staff. We are fortunate to have such an experienced, talented and professional team here at JCSRS.

We have several ‘end of year’ celebrations and outings coming up. Please pay attention to e-notices and the weekly email from class teachers that alert you to special events and arrangements. You will also see our calendar for the 2019-20 school year in this newsletter. We will also make this available on our website.

Kind Regards

Karin
